Background
This Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion research project was a semester-long project for an integrative research and development class. The topic I chose was significant because I am close to starting my career journey, hopefully in a corporate setting. The idea was to determine how women were treated in the U.S. corporate setting when many already know that men and women are not treated equally in the workplace. The difference between having an idea and seeing the data of how few women work in corporate America was astonishing. It made me realize that more companies should be taking action to recruit and support women in the workplace.
After compiling my research, I decided to create a DEI guide for companies to follow and execute which is something that companies should be practicing and evaluating routinely. Companies will try to show their inclusivity to the public but will not continue that work when no one is looking. I showcased the current numbers at the time of how many women were working in corporate America and what type of efforts were in place to make an inclusive environment.

Reflection
This project was very eye-opening for myself and my peers considering a majority of my class including the professor were females. Corporate America is still male-dominated but there are companies who have been putting in more effort and funding to support females in the workplace but there is still a long way for companies to go before having more women in the workforce. As I join the workforce soon, I hope to see more companies with women in managerial positions and more effort towards finding women talent. Overall this project allowed me to learn about the harsh realities women have been fighting for to earn their position on the top.
