Shit Talking Hexagon
Background
This project was supposed to be a structure that could hold one or more living beings. While I was brainstorming about what type of structure I could propose, I thought about how New York has so much foot traffic so it could be difficult to hear other people when talking or if someone is on the phone and all you hear is city life. The structure would allow one or two people to be inside at once and have privacy to make calls, talk, or sit for a minute.
The structure I created was shaped like a hexagon and the reason I chose this shape was that it is my favorite shape and easy to work with because of all the straight edges and corners. While working on my sketches and planning out the logistics, I did not anticipate how difficult the math would be for the shape. I had a lot of help from my professor at the time because as I was working on my scaling for the physical structure they needed to match the scale of my drawings as well. As I started building my structure, I was originally going to use cardboard but I did not like the quality of cardboard I had access to at the time. I ended up buying foam to create my panels and used cardboard and paper fasteners to connect all the pieces. Inside these structures there are only two seats that cannot be moved so there is not a lot of room to do anything besides talking. The design I chose to cover the structure with was supposed to resemble graffiti due to the amount of graffiti you would see all around New York.

I loved how this came out because I was able to showcase the type of style and work I enjoy creating. The work did take longer than I hoped but I thought decoration played a crucial role in how the structure fits into the New York environment. I was worried that the structure integrity was not going to hold due to the structure being held together mostly by fasteners but it held up the weight and the door was lifted upward to get inside. Overall I loved this project and hope to do similar things in the future.
